Haha so i may have -kinda- done the initial sketch for this in one of my seminars

lol

Ive been thinking on how much i miss my family recently since coming to university,

and i remember thinking to myself 'I'll probably cry when my mum calls..' And Voila! The finished product!

She's a mermaid thats been stranded on land and can never return home to the sea.

So this is her using what little mermaid magic she has left to call home.

I don't know what to critique, it looks awesome!

Maybe just the very darkest shadows could be darker, it's god a kind of 'instragram' look to it (which would be fine if the fish weren't so vibrant, but since they are I think the dark should be darker to balance it out.

The lighting is gorgeous, I love the hands and how the light defines the shapes. The loose brushy style is really nice. I love a paintier look rather than super smooth. The story behind the piece is lovely too.

Thank you :] The painting effect on the hands and fish are definitely my favourite aspects of the piece too! Perhaps i should make my paintings a little less smooth in future to give them more depth and texture?
